  • USER EDUCATION PROGRAMME

  • During the beginning of the academic session every year, library organizes users awareness programme to familiarize students with the functioning and services of the library. It is a common experience of all professionals that availability of resources is no more a problem which has been enabled through availing the accessibility to various consortia. Recently launched Shodh Sindu consortium which is a merger of three consortium provides access to large numbers of full text journals in all the fields of knowledge. As such library has adequate resources , but utilization by the users both by the faculty and students is much below the expectation of publishers and library professionals. In order to fill up this gap, library from the present academic session made it compulsory for all the students to attend user education programme if would like to seek library membership. This year, we kept 2 complete weeks to provide this service to all new and old students dividing them according to their subject affinity. We expect that usability of resources will increase this year substantially.

  • The main course contents of the programme were – how to make best use of library and internet resources, what are the different search strategies being followed by search engines, introduction to various publishers and their products, etc. The contents of the programme for MPhil and PhD students have been differently designed to help them in their research pursuits and introduce them to all the advanced services available to them.

  • CURRENT CONTENT SERVICE

As soon as new journals are received in science, these are sent to the science library for the benefit of the faculty, who cannot easily visit the library. These are replaced by the new arrival and displayed in the science library. At the same time the content pages are scanned and archived in Dspace which are made searchable on every content. One can search all current and old contents on-line and can take photocopy or scanned copy from the old printed volumes available in the library. This service has been conceived in view of the low usage of current issues of printed journals being subscribed. There is every probability of the use of old issue of these journals through content pages.
